Kingfisher ERP software was developed from the earlier ideas of MRP (Material Requirements Planning) and MRP2 (Manufacturing Resource Planning). Kingfisher was designed to break down barriers between the production and sales departments achieving total transparency. This visibility removes the sales team selling more products than production can manufacture.

MRP makes time-phased recommendations about materials needed for production and incorporates a “rough-cut” or “infinite capacity” schedule. It provides information about how busy individual resources are expected to be, but leaves decisions on how to resolve bottlenecks or smooth load down to human intervention.

MRP2 also calculates the orders required to fulfil customer requirements but schedules all resources in a finite manner, having first ranked all production orders, to optimise on-time delivery. By working to a priority listing of orders the system is able to schedule all work through the shop floor, producing individual work-to lists for each resource and calculating the date and time each order will be available to ship.

Kingfisher can be installed to use either (or indeed, both) approach(es). It is integrated business software which incorporates accounting, batch manufacturing, business management, operations management, process manufacturing, capacity planning, financial, inventory management, production control and supply chain logistics software into a single system with a lean approach.
